Founded in 1969, over the years, the “Boulangerie Regionale”
has always been at the heart of economic activity in the region, offering
top quality products to Magdalen Islanders. In early 2000, faced with
new challenges in remaining competitively up to date resulted in actively
seeking ways to develop and advance the business.
The local food cooperatives, united under the name ‘L’idéale
fédérée’, were excited by the idea and found
it pertinent to unite efforts in order to develop new products and even
consider exporting products. The vision and orientation of the business
were very similar to those of the cooperatives. The context favoured a
unified business relationship between many members of the sector to market
to new markets. The experience was conclusive. The quality of the products
and services offered convinced the ‘Coop Atlantique’ to explore
and develop this association. This collaboration permitted the “Boulangerie”
to benefit from a greater visibilty within the local cooperatives. In
addition, the door to the maritime province markets was opened, by the
intermediary, the ‘Coop Atlantique’.
The business plans to export certain products to outside markets, notably
to grocery stores with an integrated bakery within the store and to specialized
supermarkets.
In
2001, restructuring the business began, and ever since, there have been
noticeable improvements made at every level. We are researching and elaborating
new products to meet expansion projects that involve exporting innovative,
interesting and delicious products.
In 2003, modernizing and acquiring the appropriate equipment resulted
in an increase in production, the development of new products and superior
quality products. We have invested in the development of new products,
in training employees and we have improved production procedures. In addition,
we have renewed our image with the creation of a more modern signature
logo and by changing our packaging to present our new products. In December
2003, the ‘Régionale’ began sending many bread dough
based products to the four maritime provinces, that are destined for bakeries
within Atlantic Coop grocery stores.
The ‘Boulangerie Régionale’ is poised for the future,
and set to tackle new challenges, continuing to explore additional markets
and collaboration with new clients.
